Hey folks! This is Frank from Sit Happens Dog Training.

Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.

Today's question is:

"Should I Crate Train My New Puppy?"

Answer from Frank Silva

The short answer is yes. I believe in crate training puppies. Um, it's probably one of the most overlooked but most important part of a dog's training. Um, some of the simple reasons why is because once they understand what crate means, it becomes a safe place for them. It becomes a place where they can turn off and relax. Um, it also is a great way to potty train. So, you can use the crate during your potty training phases to to better manage potty. Um, the other things that it helps with is anxiety, separation anxiety, so they feel more comfortable that they're going to be okay and safe in this crate, in this place while you're gone.  It also helps you in another way as far as destroying stuff in your house. Puppies have lots of energy and when that energy can't get out by via playing with your puppy, maybe you're at work or taking them on walks, then what happens is that energy gets released and and usually it's destructive behavior such as your furniture and your molding in your house and things like that.  So, the crate is a great tool for puppy training in general. I I tell folks, you know, it doesn't necessarily have to be a permanent tool, but during that puppy phase, it it it's going to make life a heck of a lot easier for you and for your dog.

Summary - TLDR

Frank Silva highly recommended crate training for new puppies, emphasizing its importance for creating a safe space, aiding in potty training, reducing separation anxiety, and preventing destructive behavior. He explained that while it doesn't have to be a permanent tool, it significantly simplifies the puppy phase for both the owner and the dog
