Hey folks! This is Frank from Sit Happens Dog Training.

Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.

Today's question is:

"How long should my dog training session be every day?"

Answer

They have no idea what's going on. And I have more tips on that. Um, you know, whoever's interested, if you want to reach out, I can help you out even further, get more detail. How long should my dog training lessons be every day? Um, another great question. So, dogs and puppies alike, um, they have the brain of a three-year-old toddler, okay? Maybe four at max, okay? They have very um limited attention spans, mental what I call mental stimulation. Their thresholds are, you know, minimal. So, I usually recommend 15 minutes at least three times a day. You're going to work with your dog, training them. 15 minutes of mental stimulation is like um well, I'll put it this way.

Summary

Dog training sessions should last about 15 minutes, at least three times a day, because dogs and puppies have the limited attention span of a three- or four-year-old toddler. For potty training, puppies will not signal when they need to go out; instead, it is about potty management, which requires the owner to monitor the puppy constantly if they have freedom in the house. Signs that a puppy needs to go out include sniffing and circling, and the owner should immediately take them outside on a leash, saying, "Let's go potty," because owners often fail to manage their puppy in the early stages.
