Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from y'all on the internet.
Today's question is:
How do I safely introduce my puppy to people in new environments? So, first and foremost, uh a puppy should not be going out to new environments till they have all their shots. Okay? So they have to get all their um shots out of the way before you start taking them to to areas that that they could, you know, get things such as parvo or other diseases. Um so that's the first thing. Um as far as introducing the new people, um typically I tell folks start off with people coming into the home. I usually say put your puppy away until they get more training. Put your puppy away in another room for a few minutes. Let your guests come in, you know, coach your guests on sitting down, being in a calm state, and and just ignore the puppy when the puppy comes out.
Frank Silva advised that socialization can begin immediately upon bringing the puppy home, particularly if other dogs are already in the house, but within a controlled environment (00:00:00). However, Frank Silva cautioned that a puppy should not go out to new, busy environments until they have received all necessary vaccinations to prevent diseases like parvo. When introducing a puppy to new people, they suggested having guests come into the home, coaching them to sit calmly and ignore the puppy until it gets comfortable, and advised against people running up to the puppy or putting their hands out, as this can appear threatening (00:01:09).
